My love of rocks
Over the past several years I’ve developed a deep love and appreciation for rocks. I’ve collected quite a few and have them displayed beautifully in my home. To the unassuming eye my rock collection will appear as just that – a collection of rocks. To the trained or experienced eye it will appear as much more.
There are certain rocks in my collection which are actually used as spiritual tools for my home. For example – at the entrance to my home there is a large piece of granite. Granite is special to me for several reasons. The mountains which surround the valley I grew up in are made up mostly of granite. Granite has spiritual properties of helping one to feel more grounded and balanced. By having a piece of granite at the entrance to my home it allows those who visit me to feel more deeply the peace of the space I welcome them into.
I have on my bookshelf a large piece of obsidian. This piece is stunning in its raw beauty and attracts a lot of attention. One should be careful when handling my obsidian however because it is sharp and likely to cut you. In addition to that obsidian is somewhat of a filter for negative energy. It absorbs any negativity in its vicinity and defuses it into positive energy. The problem with this is that all the negative energy is stored in the obsidian, so when you touch it you should be cognizant of that fact and touch it with caution.
I have several pieces of petrified wood in my home. Petrified wood is a great tool for past life work. Petrified wood has ties to this earth which are much older than most of the other things around us, and at one time it was alive and vibrant. I’ve only had my pieces of petrified wood for a short period of time (less than a year) and so my work with these pieces has been somewhat limited as of now.
I have two very personal rocks. These are my babies and if you look closely at them, you can tell that I have a very close bond with them. One is a small piece of granite which I can hold in the palm of my hand – we’ve already discussed the properties of granite, so I won’t go into that again. The other is a crystal. I was recently told that it is Orange Calcite. This crystal was given to me by my oldest daughter only a few months before she went to live with my sister.
For the first several years the crystal was in my possession I had no idea of the power it held. One night I was meditating holding the crystal and the granite (a different piece than I have now) and before I knew it I was having an out-of-body experience. This was my first clue as to the power of my crystal. Since that discovery I’ve used my crystal for a variety of things. I’ve used it to help me sleep at night, to cure body pains I was experiencing, to cleanse mine and several of my friends homes of negative energies, and as a meditation tool.
As I delved into a greater understanding of rocks I also began learning about herbs, natural remedies for illnesses and spiritual energy work. Recently I started learning about Tarot and found that I have an innate talent for doing Tarot work. I realize that I am still a novice at using the tools I have, but I have a great desire within me to learn about my talents and skills and to share those with others.
